 About Cikgu Wong

A teachers' college graduate teaching in primary school, with 20 years of professional experience. She teaches to the individual and keeps an eye on every child. Her aim is a different kind of learning environment — one where children come to enjoy writing in Malay.

How she teaches
Teaching is pitched at the child's level and aimed at what they actually need. The class is light-hearted, with small games and conversation to get children thinking. In a happy room, Malay starts to appeal and the old fear of it falls away. She walks children step by step into saying what they think, and encourages them to speak up and engage with her, which closes the distance between them. The writing class covers Malay sentence construction, ulasan and composition; she supplies an essay outline and vocabulary to work from. She corrects weak points patiently, teaching technique word by word. A slow child does not worry her — a child standing still does. If a student is struggling she contacts them privately to find out what is going on and helps. One-to-one marking with written comments is included.

What she holds to
I believe there is no such thing as a student who cannot be taught, so I do whatever it takes to help a child get there. I am, quite simply, a teacher who cares — patient and gentle in bringing a child through to real Malay.
